EATING DISORDERS

A 2007 study of 9,282 Americans found:

0.9% of women and 0.3% of men had anorexia during their lifetime
1.5% of women and 0.5% of men had bulimia during their lifetime
3.5% of women and 2.0% of men had binge eating disorder during their lifetime

Based on these results, the National Eating Disorder Association estimates that approximately 20 million women and 10 million men in the United States have an eating disorder at some point in their lifetime.

TREATMENT TEAM

A treatment team is an important component for dealing with an eating disorder. A team usually consists of a physician, psychotherapist, dietitian, and psychiatrist. Other therapists and/or a case manager may also be part of the team.
