GOOD NUTRITION
What we eat or don’t eat impacts us both physically and mentally. Optimal nutrition can improve one’s mood, stress level, digestion, and overall health.
STRESS
Stress can impact appetite, hydration and the how well we digest and absorb nutrients. If we are stressed, we may be less likely to choose nutritious foods. Conversely, failure to eat nutritious foods may increase stress. Fad diets, detoxes and cleanses can rob us of adequate nutrients. We should focus on nourishing and fueling the body, which includes carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.
MINDFUL EATING
To promote digestion, we should eat slowly and in a relaxed atmosphere. This includes no screens and no multitasking. When we eat mindfully we enjoy food more. When distracted, we may ignore hunger and fullness cues.
BALANCE
Our relationship with food can contribute to an overall balance in our life. Getting a variety of foods and macro/micro nutrients will determine how well we are fueling and nourishing ourself. Eating brightly colored fruits and vegetables will provide antioxidants and phytochemicals. Nutritious food is a great way to reduce inflammation and boost mood and the immune system.
